For day 2 of our staycation we took our son to see Jurassic World. Our local Regal Theater has $5 Tuesday's. First we went to our local Walgreens and bought 3 of their theater candy that they had on sale 3 for $3 this week. It was $15 for the 3 of us to go to an evening movie. We did splurge on pop and popcorn at the theater ($22). Total for the 3 of us to go was $40 for everything. On a side note, there was a baby in the theater. I realize that there are going to be many people who think we bring our 8 year old to movies that are too old for him. He sees all the super hero movies that are PG13 and action movies like Transformers, Turtles, etc. But a baby who was only like 4 months old? I don't know. I thought it was kind of intense for a baby.
Then we went to Denny's for dinner since kid's eat free for dinner on Tuesday's. Plus, we had a 20% off coupon. The total for the 3 of us was $23.00 plus tip. I did have a weird conversation with my husband on the way home. He said he hates using coupons at restaurants, it makes him feel cheap. I don't understand this at all. We saved almost $6 using this coupon. I don't see what the big deal is. I guess I am more on the frugal train then he is. We are just starting this frugal journey and I guess we are just on a different learning curve.
Still we had a fun evening. And that was the most important part, spending time together just the 3 of us,
Total Spent Day 2: $68.00
Total Spent On Staycation: $101.00

STAYCATION DAY 1
We did a horrible job budgeting for a vacation this year. No, take that back I did a horrible job budgeting for a vacation this year. Up until now I have done all the budgeting on my own, but we are working on changing that. More on that later. Anyway, I would put money away for vacation, but kept "borrowing" it to do other things and never got to pay it back. The result is we have to stay home for our vacation this year. One one hand it's great because we actually get to stay home together, which very rarely happens. Both Rick and I work opposite schedules so we never have a day off together so all 3 of us can do something. On the other hand, I want us to do things and not just sit around the house all week, but we are on a limited budget. So we have to get creative and start trying to be frugal for the first time in our married life.
Day 1 of our staycation we went to the sports card place about 20 minutes away from us. My son is obsessed with hockey. He loves the sport! He saved up $105.00 from his allowance and wanted to buy something autographed. He bought 2 autographed pictures and 2 packs of hockey cards. The total he spent was $104.29. He spent all his money, but he was a happy 8 year old!. We spent nothing. The card store is only open during the day so it was nice to finally be able to go.
We also went out to dinner which is something we rarely do. It was nice just being to go out with just the 3 of us.
Total Spent Day 1: $34.00
Total spent on Staycation: $34.00
